LIVING WITH WATER

Hains Point is at the confluence of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers. The area experiences daily tidal action and is vulnerable to sea level rise and storm surge. The project uses nature-based design to accommodate rising waters, transforming the landscape from a flat space to a hillside and tidal freshwater wetland. With views toward the Washington Monument and National Mall, the design reimagines the relationship with water in the nation’s capital.
